A woman who accused Jay-Z of sexually assaulting her when she was just 13 years old has been caught on an audio recording allegedly admitting that the attack never happened. According to reports, the woman, identified only as Jane Doe, also claimed that her attorney pressured her into filing the lawsuit against the hip-hop mogul.
The lawsuit, which was originally filed in Manhattan federal court, accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of assaulting her at a New York VMAs afterparty in 2000. However, last month, her attorney, Tony Buzbee, quietly withdrew the case. Now, a new recording obtained by ABC News casts even more doubt on the allegations.
In the leaked audio, two private investigators hired by Jay-Z can be heard questioning Jane Doe about her claims. When asked whether the rapper had any involvement in the alleged assault, she reportedly admitted that he did not.
“He was just there, but he didn’t have anything to do with any sexual acts towards you?” one investigator asked.“Yeah,” Jane Doe responded, seemingly confirming that Jay-Z had no role in any attack.
The recording also reveals that the woman felt pressured by her attorney, Buzbee, to move forward with legal action against the hip-hop legend.
“He was the one that kind of pushed me towards going forward with him, with Jay-Z,” she stated in the clip.“Buzbee did?” the investigator asked.“Yeah,” she confirmed.
Buzbee, who is also representing multiple women in lawsuits against Diddy, filed a voluntary notice of dismissal on February 14, effectively ending the case. Since it was dismissed with prejudice, the lawsuit cannot be refiled in the future.
Following the dismissal, Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, criticized the case, stating it “never should have been brought.” The revelation of this recording further supports the defense’s argument that the lawsuit was baseless from the start.
