Latto Doesn’t Think It Would Make Sense For Ice Spice To Engage In a Rap

Introducing a statement with “no shade” doesn’t guarantee it won’t be perceived as such – a lesson the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Da Souf,’ Latto, is learning firsthand following her recent interview with Billboard.

The ‘Big Energy’ rapper stood by her talent and addressed the topic of rap battling Ice Spice with grace, asserting she meant no shade. She expressed her desire for a fierce competitor to go head-to-head with.

Billboard initially published her remarks in a Q&A interview.

“If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like imma go tit for tat with. I really don’t mean it as shade.”

Latto emphasized that she and Spice offer “two different types of vibes,” suggesting that “an actual rap beef” is improbable.

“Everybody gon’ take their lil jabs in the music, and it’s not even that serious to me; I feel like you should do that. Continue to!” Latto stated. “But as far as actual whole diss records to each other, I don’t think she would even want to do that. I feel like… would it even make sense? It wouldn’t.”

Regarding jabs, there have been several between Latto and Spice. In February, for instance, Latto included an image of the “Gimmie a Light” artist on the cover art for her “Sunday Service” track. As recently as June, there seemed to still be some tension.

Both artists have highly anticipated new albums coming soon. Ice Spice will release her “Think U the Shit (Fart)”-featuring Y2K! on July 26 via Capitol and 10K Projects. In August, Latto will drop her album Sugar Honey Iced Tea through RCA.

In February, the two rappers exchanged shots. Ice initially dropped subtle bars in “Think U the Sh*t (Fart)” after assuming Latto was dissing her in a TikTok video the previous month. Latto seemingly responded with “Sunday Service” a week later. That same month, a truck promoting Ice Spice’s new single was vandalized in Atlanta. Last month, fans speculated Latto threw shade at Ice Spice with a poop emoji cake post.

The rumored feud between Latto and Ice Spice began in January 2023, when Latto claimed she didn’t know the lyrics to Spice’s “Bikini Bottom” song during a red-carpet interview. Fans interpreted this as shade, and Latto added fuel to the fire by seemingly dissing Spice on Offset’s “Fine as Can Be” in October of that year.

After Latto continued to throw shade at the start of 2024, Spice finally responded with “Think U The S**t (Fart)” on Jan. 26. Fans believed the song targeted Latto with lines like: “I got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up all on the floor, told her get up,” possibly referencing Latto’s single “Put It on da Floor.” Spice confirmed the song was about Latto in a Twitter Spaces session in February. Latto retaliated with “Sunday Service” on Feb. 14 and filmed the music video in Spice’s hometown of The Bronx.
