Among the speakers was comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, whose comments about Puerto Rico drew particular backlash.
Hinchcliffe, known for his edgy comedy, made a derogatory joke about Puerto Rico, stating, “There’s a lot going on, like, I don’t know if you know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now… I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” This statement provoked outrage, especially given New York City’s large Puerto Rican community.
