Jamie Foxx Returns to the Stage with “One More Chance” Comedy Show

Jamie Foxx is opening up like never before. On Monday, September 2, the Oscar-winning actor shared more details about his highly anticipated and deeply personal one-man show, which he described as an “unforgettable” experience. In an Instagram post, Foxx revealed that he would be “[taking] the stage to share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration.”

The show, titled One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx, will be held in Atlanta for three consecutive nights, from October 3 to October 5. Foxx’s announcement promised a unique experience, stating that ticket information would be released soon. The Instagram post featured a black square with the words “WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS,” hinting at the themes of the show, which Foxx elaborated on in his caption.

“Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance, as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs, and everything in between,” Foxx wrote, setting the tone for a night of revelations. He concluded, “Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection, and genuine connection.”

The announcement generated a wave of excitement among fans and fellow celebrities alike. Chance the Rapper commented, “I’m there,” expressing his eagerness to attend. Questlove also showed his enthusiasm, writing, “Damn, I might have to roll to this jawn,” indicating his intent to join the audience.

Foxx’s decision to open up in such a public and creative way comes six months after his appearance at the 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards. During the event, Foxx hinted at the idea of discussing his health journey through an upcoming stand-up comedy special.

“Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m gonna tell you what happened, but I got to do it in my way,”

he said while accepting the AAFCA’s Producers Award for his company, Foxxhole Productions.

In April 2023, while in the midst of filming the Netflix movie Back in Action, Foxx experienced a “medical complication” that led to months of recovery and a break from the public eye. By January, he was back on set with co-star Cameron Diaz, and Netflix later announced that the film would start streaming on January 17, 2024.

Just before his appearance at the AAFCA Awards, Foxx had hinted at his return to comedy by sharing a clip from his 2002 HBO stand-up special, I Might Need Security, on Instagram. In the post, he teased, “Going to get on somebody’s stage somewhere near you. I got some jokes, and a story to tell…”

In July, Foxx shared more about the mysterious illness that had sidelined him, recounting his experience at an outdoor café in Phoenix. He told the crowd that he had a “bad headache” and asked a friend for an Advil. Then, snapping his fingers for emphasis, he said, “I was gone for 20 days,” revealing he had no memory of those three weeks.

Foxx elaborated further, saying,

“They told me — I’m in Atlanta — so they told me my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor.”

He credited his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corinne Foxx, with getting him the medical care he needed. “They gave me a cortisone shot,” he recalled. A cortisone injection, as explained by the Mayo Clinic, is typically used to reduce pain, swelling, and irritation.

Foxx went on, pointing to his head, “The next doctor said something’s going on up there. I won’t say it on camera. But it was…” He shrugged and trailed off, leaving his audience and viewers curious about what exactly had happened.

Foxx’s return to the stage with One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx promises to be a raw and honest account of his recent health struggles, delivered with his signature blend of humor and heart. Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to see the star in a whole new light, sharing his story in a way that only Jamie Foxx can. As the date approaches, anticipation continues to build for what is sure to be a compelling and unforgettable event.
