Jada Pinkett Smith Says That Since 2016, She And Will Smith Have Not Been Together

In a sneak peek at her forthcoming primetime interview special with Hoda Kotb, Pinkett Smith said that the couple hadn’t made their separation public earlier because they weren’t “ready yet.”

Both of them, she said, were “still trying to figure out how to be in partnership.””How do we present that to people?” she inquired of Kotb. “We hadn’t deduced that.”

Pinkett Smith, 52, and Smith, 55, have been married since 1997. Pinkett Smith claims that they haven’t formally divorced.

She alleges that their marriage has been investigated throughout the period they have been apart.

In July 2020, singer August Alsina revealed that he had dated Pinkett Smith. Smith and her hubby attested to this in a “Red Table Talk” episode.

“I got into an entanglement with August,” Pinkett Smith said at the time, saying that the well-known pair “was going through a tough time.”Next came the Oscars smack.

At the 2022 Academy Awards, Smith stormed the stage and gave presenter Chris Rock a smack for making a joke about Pinkett Smith’s baldness. Her alopecia is causing her hair to fall out.

In a recent interview with People, Pinkett Smith spoke about the incident and said that, like many others, she first thought the two males were having a funny conversation.

She said, “I thought there was no way Will could have hit him. I realized this was a skit.” “I didn’t even realize it wasn’t a skit until Will started to walk back to his chair.”

She told the newspaper that as soon as they were alone, she asked Smith, “Are you okay?”

During their discussion, Pinkett Smith told Kotb that “a lot of things” led to the breakdown of their marriage.

“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were both tired of trying,” Pinkett Smith said. “We were both somewhat mired in our idealized conceptions of what we believed the other person ought to be.”

She claimed that she and Smith would never get divorced, saying she “made a promise” and “hasn’t been able to break that promise.”

In her soon-to-be-published book “Worthy,” Pinkett Smith provides more information on her early years, career history, and marriage. She will launch the book on October 17.
