Georgia Senate Votes to Investigate Fulton County DA Fani Willis Amid Allegations

The move is part of a larger effort by Republican senators to determine whether Willis misused state tax money in her prosecution of former President Donald Trump and others.

This decision comes on the heels of Trump’s involvement in supporting a motion, alongside co-defendant Michael Roman, seeking the removal of Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade from the case. The motion alleges an improper romantic relationship between Willis and Wade, creating a potential conflict of interest.

While Willis has not publicly responded to the specific allegations regarding a romantic relationship with Wade, she passionately defended Wade and his qualifications during a speech honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 14. In her address, Willis suggested that questioning Wade’s hiring might be rooted in racism, emphasizing the importance of his expertise.

The allegations against Willis extend to credit card statements from Wade’s divorce case, revealing purchases of plane tickets for Willis and him in October 2022 for a trip to Miami and in April for San Francisco.

Republican State Sen. Brandon Beach contends that Willis employed Wade as part of a “prosecution for personal profit scheme,” accusing her of prolonging the Trump inquiry to benefit personally.

The newly proposed special committee, which passed with a 30-19 vote, would possess powers to issue subpoenas and compel individuals to testify under oath. Democratic Sen.
