Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard Accused of Covering Up Mismanagement

Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is facing accusations of financial mismanagement following an investigation by former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. The report alleges a “systematic effort” by Henyard’s administration to hide the village’s financial problems. Lightfoot presented her findings during a meeting on Monday, shedding light on unchecked spending and missing funds.

The investigation revealed that the Village of Dolton received $3 million in American Rescue Plan funds, with hundreds of thousands of dollars unaccounted for. Henyard’s administration failed to assign an official to oversee these funds, as required by federal guidelines. Additionally, city credit card expenditures reached $779,638 in 2023, with most purchases lacking proper receipts.

Lightfoot’s report highlighted that Henyard and her team used city funds for lavish trips to Las Vegas in 2022 and 2023. These trips were reportedly meant for business development, but there is no evidence that they yielded any benefits for Dolton. For more updates check our Youtube channel.

“Beginning at least as early as late 2021, there was a concerted, systematic effort on behalf of Mayor Henyard and others in her administration to hide the true financial condition of the Village of Dolton from the trustees and from members of the public,” Lightfoot stated in her report.

The controversy comes just days after Henyard was held in contempt of court for failing to issue liquor licenses approved by the village board. Despite repeated promises, Henyard missed deadlines to sign the licenses, forcing business owners to return to court.

Critics argue that Henyard’s actions could lead to Dolton’s financial collapse. Lightfoot’s findings raise serious concerns about accountability and transparency in local governance.

This case adds to the ongoing scrutiny of Henyard’s leadership, with many calling for stricter oversight to prevent further misuse of public funds.
