the inspiring story of a Houston cop who saves a domestic abuse victim and the survivor’s heartfelt gratitude. A heartwarming reunion. As Cassie fled for her life on Navigation Street in Houston’s East End in June 2023, all but one police officer passed her. Cassie saw HPD Officer Rogers four months later.
“Thank you so much for everything you did that day,” Cassie says. Officer Rogers responds, “Oh, no problem,” and Cassie agrees. I’d be dead without you today. You saved my life.”
After gun-related domestic abuse, victims typically die.
Fired at me. Point-blank? Just like that, “Cassie appears three feet away.
Cassie says her boyfriend attacked again the day before his June choking trial.
“He shot me twice with the handgun after punching me. “Why are you doing this?” We spoke while he shot, and I went home for help. Cassie stated she and Officer Rogers ran for safety.
She wore a sundress. I wondered why she was running in a sundress. (You knew she wasn’t exercising?) “She was not working out and cried when turning around,” Houston officer Rogers drove to her promptly.
I feared. I asked for his help. After my boyfriend shot me, I gave the cops two bullets, “Cassie says.
Her two bullet casings shocked me. That’s odd. Few officers attend live events. We reply to 911 calls and leave. “Officer Rogers witnessed Cassie’s boyfriend driving away. The cop and backup followed him to a convenience store.
“Where’s he? Armed. Pointing a firearm to himself. Hold on. Hold on. A gun is at his head. Put it down. Get down.” Police body cams show police talking. After removing the clients securely, police try to persuade the man to surrender.
Put it down now. He wants to shoot himself. Trigger pushed. Drop the gun. He assists the police.
“No. Dude, I’ll shoot myself.” Shooting himself, he died seconds later.
I suppose a murder-suicide would occur without Officer Rogers. Sorry, he committed suicide. I wish it ended differently. This transformed me. It’s hard. Nighttime sleeplessness. Gunshots caused PTSD. Very scared. I mistrust men. I value life. Cassie idolises Officer Rogers.
“She’s brave. Escaped her situation. “That takes guts,” says Officer Rogers.
I appreciate discussing domestic abuse with you today. If experiencing it, leave. Leave, it’s meaningless, “Cassie shouts.
HPD Officer Rogers oversees the Adrian Thomas Rogers Law Firm and is a reserve officer in the U.S. Army JAG Corp.
Additional honour. Afro-American Police Officers League named Rogers Patrol Officer of the Year.
He has several titles, but Cassie calls him Heaven Sent.
Thank goodness he was there. Like an angel at the right time, Cassie says.
He will always be her badge-and-rifle angel without wings or halo.
Thought I was dying. It scared me. Lucky me to live. I appreciate his reassurance. I appreciate his security. Cassie wipes tears and thanks him for my safety.
