Harris Says Trump “demeans the office” of the president after he calls her a ‘s—‘ vice president

Vice President Kamala Harris responded firmly on Sunday to former President Donald Trump’s derogatory remarks about her, emphasizing that the American people deserve better from their leaders. In an interview with Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC, Harris criticized Trump’s behavior, saying it not only disrespects the office of the presidency but also undermines the standard that should be set for the nation, both domestically and internationally.

Trump’s comments came during a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he launched his typical insults at Harris, calling her a “s—” vice president and declaring that the crowd should reject her. He added, “You have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore. ‘We can’t stand you, you’re a s— vice president. Worst vice president. Kamala, you’re fired.’”

Harris didn’t shy away from addressing these remarks, stating that Trump should never hold the office of the president again. “Donald Trump should never again stand behind the seal of the president of the United States. He has not earned the right. He’s not earned the right, and that’s why he’s going to lose,” she said.

Harris further discussed how Trump’s behavior degrades the stature of the presidency. According to her, the office of the president carries an immense responsibility to uphold dignity and respect, not just for the American people, but on the global stage. By engaging in personal attacks and insults, Harris believes Trump has shown a lack of the leadership that is necessary for someone entrusted with such a significant role.

During her interview with Sharpton, Harris also spoke about the recent death of Yahya Sinwar, a Hamas leader, following the tragic events of October 7, 2023, when over 1,200 people were killed in Israel, and approximately 250 were taken hostage. Harris reiterated her stance that the war must come to an end and that hostages must be released, expressing her concern over the ongoing violence.

In discussing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Harris condemned the large number of Palestinian deaths. “The number of innocent Palestinians that have been killed in Gaza is really unconscionable,” she said. “We have to be honest about that, and at the same time, I will always stand in terms of Israel’s right to defend itself, and we need this war to end.” She has consistently voiced concern for the many innocent lives lost in Gaza, describing the situation as “unconscionable.”

Harris’ position on the war has drawn mixed reactions, particularly among progressives who are uneasy about supporting her due to her stance on Israel’s right to defend itself. The ongoing conflict has caused significant tension within the Democratic Party, particularly among progressives who are advocating for more attention to the suffering of Palestinians.

Later in the interview, Harris was asked about the challenges she faces with certain demographics, particularly Black men, who appear less supportive of her campaign than previous Democratic candidates. She rejected the notion that this resistance is solely rooted in misogyny but acknowledged that she must work to earn the votes of all Americans, regardless of race or gender.

“What can be frustrating sometimes is to have journalists ask me this question as though one should assume that I would just be able to take for granted the vote of Black men,” Harris said. “I think that’s actually an uninformed perspective because why would Black men be any different than any other demographic of voter? They expect that you earn their vote.”

In response to the lower polling numbers among Black men, the Harris campaign has been making concerted efforts to engage this demographic. They have unveiled an “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men,” which aims to address key issues that resonate with this group, such as economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, and education. The campaign has also increased media outreach, making appearances on platforms with significant Black audiences to ensure that Harris’ message reaches this important constituency.

In conclusion, Harris’ response to Trump’s attacks reflects her broader philosophy of raising the bar for leadership in America. She is not only defending her role but also emphasizing the need for leaders who bring dignity, respect, and a sense of responsibility to the office. Her campaign continues to face challenges, particularly in connecting with certain voter groups, but Harris is committed to earning the support of all Americans through outreach and addressing their concerns directly.
