After the New York authorities charge Daniel Penny, the former US Marine accused of a fatal chokehold that took the life of a black homeless street artist Jordan Neely on a subway train with second-degree murder charges, many in the right-wing have expressed vehement support for him.
Penny has increasingly become a hero for the right wing and many in the GOP with many big names and donors offering their support to his legal defense. An online fundraiser for Daniel Penny who fatally choked Jordan Neely, a homeless black street performer on a New York Subway, raisedover $2 million last week.
The response to the fundraising was so overwhelming that it crashed the Christian fundraising site, GiveSendGo Page. The fundraising website famously also hosted fundraising for vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse and January 6 insurrectionists.
The chorus for Daniel Penny’s defense is growing with many prominent Republicans among them, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who hailed Penny as a “Good Samaritan.”
“We must defeat the Soros-Funded DAs, stop the Left’s pro-criminal agenda, and take back the streets for law-abiding citizens. We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny. Let’s show this Marine … America’s got his back,” DeSantis tweeted.
Vivek Ramaswamy, another Republican hopeful, donated $10,000 to the Penny fundraiser.
Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz said, “Subway Superman Daniel Penny is a HERO.”
“Today, I will personally be donating to his legal defense fund on GiveSendGo,” Gaetz added.
