The State Attorney’s Office confirmed to the media on Tuesday that Otis Anderson Sr. pled guilty to manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of his son, Otis Anderson Jr., and was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison as a result of his guilty plea.

Otis Anderson Jr. was a former great University of Central Florida football player.

According to the documents from the Duval County court, Anderson Sr. made an appearance on Tuesday morning. Following his release from Florida State Prison after serving his term of 12 years and six months, he will be placed on probation for five years.

Anderson Sr. will get credit for 707 days of service already spent, equivalent to over two years.

In the beginning, he entered a not guilty plea to the counts of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder; but, as part of his plea arrangement, he agreed to enter a guilty plea to the lower charges of armed manslaughter and attempted armed manslaughter.

During Anderson Sr.’s court appearance, the family decided not to say anything to the judge or the audience.

According to the arrest papers, the guy, who was 53 at the time, shot and murdered his son back in November 2021 when they were arguing over a dog bite that had happened earlier.

Officers discovered Anderson Jr., who was a former running back at UCF at the time, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest when they arrived on the scene. Anderson Jr. had been wounded earlier in the day.

It was reported that a second victim, Denise Anderson, was suffering from many graze wounds as well.

The two victims were taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, Anderson Jr. did not survive his injuries and passed away there. After receiving treatment, Denise Anderson was eventually released from the hospital.

Anderson Jr. was 23 years of age at the time.

According to the report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, it seemed as if Anderson Jr. had been shot in the chest and the back. A pool of blood could be seen outside the house where he had slumped as well.

Inside the formal dining room, a gunshot impact and projectile were discovered in the front window of the building. Another part of a projectile was found on the floor of the master bedroom, and other fragments were found near the sink in the kitchen.
