Rep. Glenn Ivey has become the first Democratic member of Congress to publicly call for Chuck Schumer’s removal as Senate Minority Leader. Speaking at a town hall in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Ivey stated that Schumer’s leadership on government funding had failed.

“I respect Chuck Schumer. I think he had a great, long-standing career, did a lot of great things, but I’m afraid that it may be time for the Senate Democrats to get a new leader,” Ivey told the audience.

His comments came after Schumer allowed a Republican-led funding bill to pass, avoiding a government shutdown. Many Democrats wanted a stronger pushback against GOP policies. The crowd of 800 people responded with loud applause, signaling widespread frustration among Democratic voters.

Attendees at the town hall expressed anger over what they saw as a weak response from Democratic leaders. Some demanded more aggressive action against Trump and his policies. One woman urged Ivey to stop relying on elections and court decisions, yelling, “You are talking about voting, the house is on fire!” For more updates check our Youtube channel.

Another constituent criticized Ivey’s calm demeanor, telling him, “You are everything we need in a congressperson in ordinary times, but we need something for non-ordinary times.”

Despite the criticism, Ivey stood firm, explaining that Democrats needed to focus on winning the 2026 midterm elections to regain control. He acknowledged the anger in the room but insisted that a strategic approach was necessary.

While some Democrats agree with Ivey’s stance on Schumer, others argue that shutting down the government would have caused more harm. The debate over Democratic leadership and strategy continues as the party prepares for the next election cycle.
