HBO Host Renews Million-Dollar Offer to Clarence Thomas to Resign: 'The Contract is Still Valid!'

HBO Host Renews Million-Dollar Offer to Clarence Thomas to Resign: ‘The Contract is Still Valid!’ HBO host John Oliver has reiterated his offer to pay Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas $1 million annually if he resigns from the highest court in the land. Oliver first made the offer in February, and although Thomas did not accept, Oliver has stated that he is willing to reopen negotiations.

Appearing on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Oliver said, “If you want to get in touch and open up the negotiations again, I still have the contract in the drawer in my desk, and I’d be willing to do that.” He also joked that he would be willing to throw in a “brand-new condo on wheels” as part of the deal.

Oliver had initially made the offer on his show “Last Week Tonight,” saying, “A million dollars a year and a brand-new condo on wheels, and all you have to do in return is sign the contract and get the f— off the Supreme Court.” He had given Thomas 30 days to respond to the offer, but it was not accepted.

Despite this, Oliver has stated that he is willing to reopen negotiations, saying, “Honestly, I’d open it up again. As long as he gets out before they’re doing the June decisions. I would be willing to open discussions again.” He also made a direct plea to Thomas, saying, “If you want to get in touch and open up the negotiations again, I still have the contract in the drawer in my desk, and I’d be willing to do that. Again, until one of us dies, and hopefully that will be you.”

“I was so excited. ‘Oh, that was fun. That show went really well. Oh f—, it’s about to happen now, isn’t it?'” Oliver joked.

Oliver’s offer has been seen as a tongue-in-cheek attempt to get Thomas to resign, and it is unlikely that Thomas would accept such an offer. However, Oliver’s willingness to reopen negotiations highlights his continued frustration with Thomas’s presence on the Supreme Court.

Thomas has been a controversial figure on the court, known for his conservative views and his role in several high-profile cases. Oliver has been critical of Thomas in the past, and his offer to pay him to resign is likely a way of expressing his disapproval of Thomas’s actions.

Oliver’s offer has sparked a lot of debate, with some people seeing it as a legitimate attempt to get Thomas to resign, while others see it as a publicity stunt. However, regardless of the motivation behind the offer, it has brought attention to the issue of judicial reform and the need for accountability on the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is seen as a sacred institution in American democracy, and the justices are expected to be impartial and independent. However, there have been several instances of justices being accused of misconduct and bias, and Oliver’s offer to Thomas is likely a response to these concerns.

In recent years, there have been calls for judicial reform, including proposals to impose term limits on justices and to create a more transparent and accountable process for selecting judges. Oliver’s offer to Thomas is likely a way of highlighting these issues and bringing attention to the need for change.
