Chris Rock recently addressed the possibility of returning as the host of the Academy Awards three years after the infamous on-stage incident involving Will Smith. Speaking to E! News at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, Rock was asked whether he would ever consider hosting the prestigious event again. Despite the shocking altercation in 2022, the comedian did not completely dismiss the idea.

“You never know,” Rock responded when asked about a potential return. “What I will say is this the most miserable people on Earth are the ones who can’t forgive. And it’s not just about forgiving others; sometimes, you have to forgive yourself. So, hey, you never know.”

He further elaborated on his stance, adding, “I live in forgiveness. True love starts with forgiveness.” For more updates check our Youtube channel.

Rock has a history with the Oscars, having hosted the ceremony twice before, in 2005 and 2016. In 2022, he was on stage to present the award for Best Documentary when he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, referencing the film “G.I. Jane.” Pinkett Smith who has been open about her struggle with alopecia, appeared visibly uncomfortable. Moments later, Will Smith stormed onto the stage and slapped Rock across the face, shocking the audience and millions of viewers worldwide. As Smith returned to his seat, he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!”

Following the incident, Smith publicly apologized, acknowledging that his actions were “unacceptable and inexcusable.” He stated that while jokes are part of the industry, he felt Rock’s comment about his wife’s medical condition crossed a line, leading to his emotional reaction. Smith expressed regret for overshadowing what should have been a celebratory night.

As a result of the altercation, the Academy banned Smith from attending any Academy-related events, including the Oscars, for ten years. Smith also resigned from the organization, expressing remorse over his actions.

While Rock remains noncommittal about a potential Oscars hosting return his words suggest that he is open to the idea. Whether he steps back onto the Oscar stage or not his approach to the situation highlights resilience, humor, and the power of moving forward.
