Charlamagne tha God says he would ‘absolutely’ endorse Harris

Charleston, noted radio personality and Moncks Corner native Charlamagne Tha God has announced that he would support Vice President Kamala Harris if she secures the Democratic party nomination following President Joe Biden’s decision to step out of the race.

In an interview on CNN’s “The Lead,” Jake Tapper questioned Charlamagne about his stance on Harris, given his previous comments labeling both former President Donald Trump and President Biden as “trash” candidates. Charlamagne, the host of “The Breakfast Club,” responded with unequivocal support for Harris.”Yeah, absolutely,” Charlamagne affirmed to Tapper.

“I absolutely would endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. I supported Kamala Harris in 2020 when she ran for president; I was out there on the campaign trail with her.”

He elaborated on his reasons, saying, “She was the only reason that I voted for the Biden-Harris ticket to begin with. We have our disagreements on air and off air, but I think that she is the perfect person to fight in these unprecedented times right now. I would absolutely support her.”

President Biden’s withdrawal from the reelection bid has revitalized the Democratic base, which is now rallying around Harris as the next potential leader of the party. Harris’s campaign has seen a significant boost, raising over $81 million since her announcement, according to campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz. This impressive figure, which includes contributions to the campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees, marks the largest 24-hour fundraising sum reported by either side in the 2024 campaign.

Biden wasted no time in endorsing Harris for the presidency after his withdrawal. Since then, Harris has secured major endorsements from unions, Democratic senators, House members, and governors nationwide. Her campaign’s momentum is building rapidly, positioning her as a formidable contender in the upcoming election.

Charlamagne’s endorsement comes after his recent criticisms of President Biden. Earlier this month, he urged Democrats to challenge Biden at the Democratic National Convention, expressing doubts about Biden’s ability to defeat former President Trump, especially after a poorly received debate performance.

“All I hear is ego,” Charlamagne remarked in response to Biden’s challenge to other Democrats to face him at the convention, scheduled for August 19-22 in Chicago. “And I hope they take him up on his offer. Every single Democrat who feels like the Democrats can’t win if President Biden is the nominee needs to challenge him at the convention. Take him up on his offer.”

Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, has consistently used his platform to voice his opinions on political matters. His support for Harris is rooted in his belief in her capability to lead during challenging times. Despite their differences, he remains convinced that Harris is the right person to address the nation’s current issues.

Harris’s campaign faces a crucial period as she transitions from a vice-presidential role to a presidential contender. Her ability to unite the Democratic party and attract a broad coalition of supporters will be essential for her success. With prominent figures like Charlamagne backing her, Harris’s campaign is gaining traction and visibility.

As the political landscape evolves, the Democratic party’s focus is on maintaining unity and building a strong campaign to challenge the Republicans in the 2024 election. Harris’s candidacy represents a significant step in this direction, with her campaign poised to leverage the current momentum and secure a path to the White House. The upcoming months will be critical as Harris seeks to solidify her position and garner widespread support ahead of the Democratic National Convention and the general election.
