Hip-hop superstar and fashion mogul A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has been acquitted of all charges in a high-profile firearm assault case that could have landed him behind bars for up to 24 years. A Los Angeles jury found the rapper not guilty on two felony assault charges.
The case revolved around claims made by Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, who accused Mayers of firing a gun at him during a heated dispute on November 6, 2021, on a Hollywood street. Ephron alleged that one of the bullets grazed his knuckles, an assertion that Mayers and his defense team vehemently denied. The rapper maintained that the alleged firearm was nothing more than a harmless prop and accused Ephron of fabricating the story for financial gain. For more updates check our Youtube channel.
As the courtroom fell silent on Tuesday, the jury’s first not-guilty verdict was met with an eruption of cheers and applause. Overcome with emotion, Mayers immediately rushed toward his family and longtime partner, pop icon Rihanna, who was seated behind him. He leaped over a wooden barrier to embrace them, visibly moved by the outcome. When the second not-guilty verdict was read, the rapper hugged his attorneys, his eyes glistening with tears.
“Thank God for saving my life,” Mayers reportedly exclaimed, expressing his gratitude to the jury for their decision.
Throughout the proceedings tensions ran high. Ephron, the prosecution’s key witness, engaged in combative exchanges on the stand. At one point he called Mayers’ defense attorney Joe Tacopina “annoying,” prompting the judge to intervene. In another unexpected courtroom moment, fellow A$AP Mob member A$AP Twelvyy was questioned about a photograph showing Mayers’ bed with “AWGE” inscribed on it. Before Twelvyy could respond Mayers abruptly interjected, shouting, “Don’t say!” a rare and nearly unheard-of interruption from a defendant in a criminal trial.
Now acquitted, Mayers is focusing on his thriving career. As for Rihanna, she has been a steadfast presence throughout the trial, supporting Mayers at various hearings. She was in the courtroom when the verdict was announced, standing by her partner as he walked free, his legal ordeal finally behind him.
