“Carlee’s actions caused hurt, confusion, and dishonesty,” Thomar Latrell Simmons posted on Instagram on Monday night. “I became aware of the false narrative while defending my ex, Carlee Russell.”
He and his “family’s nature was to react in love, and genuine concern,” he wrote, adding that they are “disgusted by the outcome of this entire situation” and that he was “blindedsided by Carlee’s actions.”
According to Simmons, the 25-year-old nursing student came clean and apologized for her conduct, giving his family “closure” even if the inquiry into the complex hoax is still ongoing.
He tweeted, “Thank you to all my family, friends, and the country for support during this. “The seriousness of this matter has not gone unnoticed, and I greatly appreciate the sincere support offered during this time.”
There was no kidnapping, according to a statement issued by Hoover Police Chief Nicholas Derzis on Monday from Russell’s attorney Emory Anthony. My customer failed to spot a child.
“My customer stayed in the Hoover region. My client regrets her behavior in this community. Carlee kindly requests your prayers and pardon,” Anthony wrote.
The night of July 13, Russell unexpectedly vanished shortly after calling 911 to report seeing a kid in a T-shirt and diaper roaming barefoot along busy Interstate 459.
When police came and discovered her red Mercedes-Benz with her smartphone and wig inside, she had pledged to stay at the site but was nowhere to be seen.
Two days later, Russell abruptly returned to her parents’ house, alleging she had been kidnapped and held hostage.
She was transferred to a hospital and consented to a police interrogation before ceasing to cooperate with the investigation.
She had Googled the Liam Neeson movie “Taken,” in which he plays a former CIA agent who struggles to save his daughter from kidnappers. This information was subsequently uncovered by investigators.
Prior to this, Simmons had removed all traces of Russell from his social media accounts and had also urged people to stop stalking her online.
“I can only say that I want everyone to stop making fun of her. I am aware of how she appears to have acted. Simply stop cyberbullying, Simmons urged The Post over the weekend.
“Consider her mental wellness. That is not fair to her. She isn’t. Nobody should be cyberbullied,” he stressed.
Talitha Robinson-Russell, Russell’s mother, also stated on Monday that “now is not a good time” to address the scandalous affair.
She had previously demonstrated that her daughter had “fought for her life” in order to escape her supposed abductor.
So far, no criminal charges have been brought against Russell, and Derzis stated on Monday that her parents are not being prosecuted in connection with the deception.
Anthony, Russell’s attorney, said he had a “great meeting” with police on Tuesday about assisting her in “getting to the end game” while “dealing with her issues.”
“We tried to identify some things about where we go from here,”. “We have responsibilities that we must fulfill.”
