Burglary Attempt at Kamala Harris’ Brentwood Residence Amid Widespread Looting During LA Wildfires

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded swiftly to Vice President Kamala Harris’ evacuated Brentwood residence early Saturday morning following reports of an attempted burglary by two individuals. This incident occurred amidst a wave of looting across Los Angeles as firefighters battled raging wildfires. While the two men were initially detained, they were later released due to a lack of evidence connecting them to any criminal intent outside Harris’ property.

Authorities received the call at approximately 4:30 a.m. and promptly arrived at the scene. The two suspects were taken into custody but were reportedly unaware that the residence they were near belonged to the Vice President. According to law enforcement sources cited by NBC Los Angeles, the men were apprehended for violating the local curfew rather than for attempted burglary. Following questioning, they were released without charges.

Harris’ Brentwood home lies within the vicinity of the fast-spreading Pacific Palisades Fire, which has prompted widespread evacuations. Although the Vice President now resides in the White House with her husband, Doug Emhoff, the Brentwood property remains her designated private residence for when she visits Los Angeles.

The affluent Brentwood neighborhood, known for housing high-profile figures such as basketball legend LeBron James and actor-turned-former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been under strict evacuation orders. Earlier this week, Ernie Apreza, Harris’ press secretary, confirmed that the Vice President’s home was vacated following the evacuation mandate.

“The Vice President’s neighborhood in Los Angeles was placed under an evacuation order last night,” Apreza shared on X, formerly Twitter.

“No one was present at the residence when the order was issued. She and the Second Gentleman are keeping their fellow Californians, heroic first responders, and Secret Service personnel in their prayers.”

As Los Angeles County continues to grapple with the escalating wildfire crisis, reports of looting have heightened concerns. Officials have pledged to hold lawbreakers accountable, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities during the emergency. Governor Gavin Newsom reiterated this sentiment, directly refuting claims by Elon Musk that looting has been decriminalized in California.
