Blytheville Man Arrested for Attacking Hospital Staff. Johnny Jones, of Blytheville, was charged with assaulting security and staff at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro on Monday.
According to reports, Jones is facing many charges related to the incident, raising concerns about healthcare worker safety.
Mitchell Nail, Media Relations Manager, said, “It’s always concerning anytime you see an incident wherever it may be.”
While Nail acknowledged the gravity of the problem, he cited Federal Regulations that prevent him from discussing the purported medical facility occurrences. Jones was admitted after a fentanyl and marijuana overdose, according to Jonesboro Police.
Jones apparently started this fight with hospital security by ranting and cursing at personnel.
“Arkansas recently passed a law that makes attacking a healthcare worker a felony,” stated Media Relations Manager Mitchell Nail.
It got worse while trying to sedate Jones. Jones allegedly hit a security guard in the mouth and tried to steal his pistol. He also fought medical staff and spat in nurses’ faces.
Nail said, “Arkansas recently passed a law that makes it where anytime a healthcare worker is attacked, it is a felony.”
St. Bernards Medical Center frequently displays safety signs throughout the hospital. Nail noted that these precautions dissuade but require a diversified approach to safety.

Jones was released from Craighead County Jail on his own recognizance and will appear in court in April.
