Black Voters Matter condemns attempts to remove Biden from the ticket. Black Voters Matter, a prominent voting rights group, has issued a scathing rebuke of Democrats who are pressuring President Joe Biden to end his 2024 campaign after a poor debate performance. The group’s leaders, LaTosha Brown, Cliff Albright, and April England-Albright, accused liberal elites of leading the effort to oust Biden, which they believe would undermine the democratic process by overruling Black primary voters.
In a statement, the group highlighted the Biden-Harris administration’s achievements, including investments in Black communities, police accountability, and funding for historically Black colleges and universities. They argued that the calls for Biden to step aside are largely driven by white congresspeople, pundits, and donors, and threaten to “mute and overlook the voices of Black Voters.”
The statement reflects a growing frustration among Black voters, who feel that their voices are being ignored in the debate over Biden’s candidacy. Many Black Democrats have expressed support for Biden, citing his commitment to issues that matter to their communities. However, some liberal elites have been quick to write off Biden’s chances, citing polls and debate performance.
Ditching the Biden-Harris ticket could negatively “impact Black turnout for decades to come while deepening the widespread belief that the Democratic Party takes our voters for granted,” Black Voters Matter argues.
Black Voters Matter pushed back against these narratives, pointing out that polls are unreliable and have actually been moving in favor of President Biden. They also noted that billionaire celebrities and political pundits do not speak for or motivate Black communities, and will not be knocking on doors to turn out the vote.
The group’s leaders emphasized that they are not denouncing principled policy disagreements with the Biden administration, but rather the “hyperbolic, coordinated, and well-funded dissent” that seeks to dismantle the Biden-Harris ticket based on a debate performance and unreliable polls.
Instead of calling for Biden to drop out, Black Voters Matter urged Democrats to “buckle up, do the work, have some courage, and stay the course” to create a society that truly represents the needs and desires of all communities.
The statement has resonated with many Black voters, who feel that their voices are being heard and their concerns are being addressed. It has also sparked a larger conversation about the role of Black voters in the Democratic Party and the need for greater representation and inclusion.
In the end, Black Voters Matter’s statement is a powerful reminder that democracy is about more than just polls and debate performances. It’s about listening to the voices of all communities and working towards a society that truly represents the will of the people.
