Black lawmakers are vital allies for Biden as he works to save his Presidential campaign.Black lawmakers play a crucial role in defending Biden as he strives to save his campaign. Their support is pivotal in his efforts to maintain political momentum and counter challenges.

President Joe Biden is facing a challenging re-election campaign, but he can count on the support of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). Despite a disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump, CBC leaders have reaffirmed their support for Biden.

Chair Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) and members like Reps. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), and Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) have publicly defended Biden, emphasizing his achievements and commitment to the Black community.

The CBC’s support is crucial, as Black voters played a significant role in Biden’s 2020 victory. However, some CBC members have not publicly endorsed Biden, and there are “little cracks” within the group. Nevertheless, most members are institutionalists who recognize Biden’s accomplishments and connection to President Obama.

Biden has also faced criticism for his age and perceived mental decline, but CBC members have pushed back against these attacks. They value seniority and the experience that comes with it, as evident in their support for the Democratic seniority system.

While some Democratic leaders have suggested replacing Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris, CBC members have largely rejected this idea. Rep. Greg Meeks (D-N.Y.) attributed the calls for Biden to step aside to a single “horrible debate” performance.

“They know President Biden and Vice President Harris are fighting for them. Like me, they don’t want to see Donald Trump back in the White House and are ready to work and VOTE to ensure that doesn’t happen,” Horsford continued.

The CBC’s support for Biden is not surprising, given his history of working with the Black community. As Vice President, Biden was instrumental in passing the Fair Sentencing Act, which aimed to reduce sentencing disparities for drug offenses. He also played a key role in the Obama administration’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which focused on supporting young men of color.

As President, Biden has continued to prioritize issues important to the Black community, such as racial equity, criminal justice reform, and voting rights. His administration has also taken steps to address economic inequality, including investing in historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and promoting minority-owned businesses.

Despite these efforts, Biden’s campaign has faced challenges in recent weeks. His debate performance against Trump was widely panned, and some Democrats have questioned his ability to energize the party’s base..
