Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton has accused the fast-food franchise McDonald’s of racially biased practices and for being discriminatory towards black people.
Founder of the National Action Network (NAN), Al Sharpton has put McDonald’s Corporation on notice for racially biased practices. The reverend alleges that the corporation refuses to advertise in Black media and has failed to resolve its difference with the Black community.
Al Sharpton wrote a letter to McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski stating that it was “appalling and inexcusable that McDonald’s Corporation has not satisfied its difference with the Black community.”
“There are lawsuits brought by Black franchises. Another brought by a Black former executive over racial discrimination from the highest levels. And let’s not forget the $10 billion lawsuit brought by Byron Allen over the fact that Black-owned media did not get its fair share of McDonald’s supersized advertising budgets,” the letter reads.
Al Sharpton announced after the 2023 NAN Annual Convention that the organization would mobilize to pressurize the organization until it takes purposeful action to address the grievances of the black people.
“We are also outraged at the removal of John Rogers, a well-respected business leader for the Black community, from the Board of Directors. We unequivocally demand they immediately acknowledge and address these issues, or we will begin a national campaign around Mcdonald’s. You cannot sell Black folks Big Macs and give us little justice”
