The mayoral campaign ad for Sheila Jackson provides wrong date for runoff election. Sheila Jackson Lee and Texas State Sen. John Whitmire are in a runoff election on December 9 to replace current mayor Sylvester Turner.
A recent advertisement, aired on local Houston television markets, encourages voters to cast their ballots “on or before December 7th.”
In the ad, Jackson Lee highlights her extensive experience as a U.S. Congresswoman and Houston city councilwoman, emphasizing her commitment to issues such as gun control, and reproductive rights, and supporting the police, schools, and small businesses in Houston.
Mayoral campaign ad for Sheila Jackson provides wrong date for runoff election. Houston, I’ve spent my entire career fighting for you from fighting to keep our kids safe from guns when I was on city council, to my days in Congress fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom and for funding for our police, schools, and small businesses” she said in the ad.
“I am now seeking the position of mayor to address Houston’s pressing issues – reducing crime rates, improving our infrastructure, and attracting high-paying job opportunities. Houston deserves a dedicated champion who is determined to fight for justice and progress. And that champion is me,” she stated confidently, although a graphic mistakenly displayed the wrong date for the upcoming election.
Jackson Lee officials denied responsibility, stating that they promptly dispatched new advertisements upon being notified of the issue.
Angelica Luna-Kaufman, a spokesperson for Jackson Lee’s campaign, explained that they promptly contacted their ad agency to make the necessary revisions and swiftly distributed the updated ads.
However, according to Angelica, the team expressed frustration as the news stations failed to comply with their request to pull the commercial.
Following a contentious debate between Jackson Lee and Whitmire last week, news of the advertisement surfaced.
The candidates engaged in a heated exchange on topics related to crime, public safety, campaign finance, and decisions made under Mayor Turner’s administration.
This debate occurred as both Whitmire and Jackson Lee were unsuccessful in obtaining the required 50 percent majority vote in the initial mayoral election held on Nov. 7.
