A$AP Rocky’s legal troubles aren’t over just yet. Despite being acquitted in his criminal trial, his former A$AP Mob associate Relli is still pursuing a civil lawsuit against him for assault and battery. According to a news report, judge has now set a trial date of January 12, 2026, for the civil case, with the next hearing scheduled for May 28, 2025.
During a virtual hearing Relli’s attorney Melissa Mikail reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing legal action.
“The standard in a criminal case is much higher than the preponderance of the evidence standard in a civil matter,” Mikail explained. “We still believe that our claims have merit, and we intend on fully litigating them.”
Rocky was acquitted on February 18 of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm after being accused of firing a weapon at Relli in a 2021 altercation. The rapper was arrested in April 2022 and Relli followed up with a civil lawsuit in August 2022. Relli maintains that Rocky brandished a gun and opened fire during an argument, while Rocky’s legal team insists he was carrying a prop gun for self-defense.
Rocky’s attorney Joe Tacopina previously accused Relli of perjury suggesting that he fabricated details of the incident while testifying. James Sargent Rocky’s civil attorney argued that the jury’s acquittal in the criminal trial proves Relli’s testimony lacked credibility. “The jury’s verdict speaks volumes about how they valued that testimonial evidence” Sargent told the judge.
Additionally reports indicate that Relli allegedly sought a $30 million settlement from Rocky to avoid further legal action. Jurors also reportedly heard a recorded phone conversation in which Relli told a friend he planned to use the money to “escape to a tropical island“ and that the payout would prevent him from testifying in the criminal trial. Tacopina labeled this as extortion.
As of now A$AP Rocky appears unwilling to settle, setting the stage for a lengthy and highly publicized civil trial.
