2-Year-Old Daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Player Drowns in Swimming Pool

The two-year old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett drowned Sunday morning in the family’s swimming pool, Tampa (Florida) police confirmed.

Arrayah Barrett was the youngest of the family’s four children. According to a spokesperson for the Tampa Police Deparment, officers responded to a call at around 9:30 a.m. of a child falling into a pool.

Arrayah Barrett was taken to a local hospital, the spokesperson said, but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Tampa police also confirmed that an investigation has been opened, but that the incident is not believed to be suspicious in nature and appears to be a tragic accident.

The Buccaneers Issued a statement Sunday through their Twitter account in support of Barrett and his family.

“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time.”

“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”

Arrayah was transported to a nearby hospital, but even with lifesaving measures, the 2-year-old was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

The linebacker and his wife, who wed in 2012, are also parents to Shaquil Jr., 11, Braylon, 9, and Aaliyah, 8.

The family, who welcomed Arrayah on April 19, 2021, recently celebrated her for her birthday.

Shaquil’s latest post on his Instagram was on April 19, celebrating Arrayah’s second birthday.

“Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl. So sweet and cute,” Shaquil posted. “You made our family complete. I love you baby girl.”

The 30-year-old linebacker signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent in 2019 and is currently in his fifth season with the Buccaneers.
