Frank Ocean, the enigmatic R&B Star who shuns the spotlight and hasn’t performed live for six years made a much-awaited return at Coachella on Sunday night, headlining the event with Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK.
His return, however, left the fans a little divided. There were some highs but quite a few lows as well.
Fans were expecting Ocean to drop some new music, but instead, he performed some of his old biggest hits, “Bad Religion,” “White Ferrari,” and “Novacane.” The singer-songwriter was scheduled to highlight the event in 2020 before it was called off due to Covid.
“I want to talk about why we’re here because it’s not because of a new album, it’s because — not that there’s not a new album,” Ocean told a cheering crowd. “But it’s not right now.”
The star showed up an hour late to his performance and then cut it short, saying that he was on a “curfew.” Unlike other performances at the Coachella, his show was also not live-streamed, leaving the fans tuning in disappointed.
Ocean’s last album “Blonde” came out in 2016 and the elusive icon has not performed live ever since.
