President Donald Trump claimed that countries across the world are desperate to avoid his new tariffs and are now begging him for deals.
Speaking during a 90-minute address at a Republican fundraiser Trump said leaders are panicking and calling him directly.He told the crowd that these countries are “kissing my ass” in hopes of removing the heavy duties.
Trump imitated the begging voices of leaders and mocked them openly in front of donors and supporters.He said they are pleading for mercy and are ready to do anything for a deal.
“These countries are calling us up kissing my ass,” Trump told the audience. “They are dying to make a deal.”
The statement came just before new tariffs went into effect on dozens of countries with China hit the hardest at 104 percent.Trump did not give names but said the pressure is working and America is finally being respected.
Global markets have responded with fear and selling and critics argue the policy will damage the economy.Trump dismissed the warnings and said he is confident in what he’s doing.
