Washington DC officials say plans are forming for a major parade on June 14. The date is both the 250th anniversary of the US Army and Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.

Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed that the White House or Homeland Security reached out to the city’s special events task force. That team handles big activities like parades in the capital. The proposed route would start at the Pentagon in Arlington and stretch to the White House. It would run about four miles through the city.

Trump has pushed for a military parade since his first term. He was inspired after watching France’s Bastille Day in 2017. But the idea faced backlash over cost and road damage concerns.

“Military tanks on our streets would not be good,” Bowser said. “If military tanks were used, they should be accompanied with many millions of dollars to repair the roads.”

A past version of the plan was scrapped when estimates hit nearly $92 million. Instead, tanks were placed in static displays during his inauguration.Mayor Bowser said she has not been directly involved yet and does not know if this will be a military parade. But she made one thing clear.

Trump still wants to mark America’s founding with a year-long event called “Salute to America 250.” The Army has been working on its anniversary celebration for over a year. The White House has not confirmed the parade but planning is underway.

For now, the capital could soon see one of the most attention-grabbing birthday parties in US history.
