Jonathan Majors has opened up about his painful past revealing that he was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. In a candid new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old actor shared that he endured abuse from both men and women starting at the age of nine. This traumatic experience, he explained, significantly shaped his life and emotional struggles.
Majors was once considered one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, known for his performances in films like Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, his career took a major hit following his conviction in December 2023 for assault and harassment against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. As a result he faced professional and legal repercussions, including being removed from multiple high-profile projects.
Following his conviction, Majors was sentenced in April 2024 to a year-long, in-person batterer intervention program in Los Angeles, California. In addition to fulfilling this court-mandated program, he revealed that he has undergone therapy, which has led him to confront deeply buried childhood trauma.
“I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9,” Majors said in the interview. “It came from people who were supposed to look after me, especially in the absence of a father. It really messed me up.”
He also discussed how therapy has helped him process his past and share his experiences with his family. “I told my mom, ‘It’s not even an issue I just want you to know. Now, we can all continue to connect, grow, and learn from it, because this is something that affected our family.’”
Acknowledging that there are no excuses for past actions, Majors emphasized the importance of seeking help. “By getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself,” he reflected.
His revelations have sparked a broader discussion about the impact of childhood trauma and the necessity of therapy and self-awareness in healing from the past.
