Former talk show icon Wendy Williams was recently transported to a New York City hospital after police conducted a welfare check at her residence. The New York Police Department confirmed the incident, stating that officers responded to a request for a welfare check at Williams’ senior living facility on Monday.
According to an official statement, emergency medical services (EMS) arrived shortly after and transported a 60-year-old Wendy Williams to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The specifics surrounding the welfare check remain undisclosed, but concerns over Williams’ well-being have been a recurring topic in recent years. Her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has been responsible for overseeing Williams’ affairs and has previously described the former television personality as being “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.” This assertion stems from Williams’ diagnosis in 2023 with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition that affects cognitive functions and behavior.
However, in a series of public statements, Williams has pushed back against these claims. In a January interview with The Breakfast Club, she refuted the diagnosis, stating, “I am not cognitively impaired. I feel like I am trapped in a conservatorship. It’s like being in prison.” These comments have added fuel to an ongoing legal and medical debate over her health and autonomy.
Last month, Morrissey responded to Williams’ public denials in a court filing, highlighting that Williams’ statements questioning her diagnosis align with common symptoms of FTD. Morrissey emphasized that many individuals with this condition struggle with self-awareness regarding their own impairments. As a result, she requested a comprehensive medical reevaluation of Williams’ condition, including neurological and psychological testing by an expert in the field.
In addition to these ongoing medical and legal disputes, Williams’ potential return to television has sparked speculation. A social media post from Suzanne Bass, a producer from “The Wendy Williams Show,” hinted that Williams might appear on “The View” later this week. If true, this could mark a significant moment for the former TV host as she navigates both personal and professional challenges.
