In a shocking turn of events, officials have confirmed that the last of the four wildfires in the Hamptons is fully contained. However, fire crews are still battling hot spots that could reignite the blaze. The fires, which erupted on Saturday afternoon, consumed 600 acres across Center Moriches, East Moriches, Eastport, and Westhampton.

Authorities feared that strong winds would spread the flames further, threatening residential areas and luxury properties. However, quick response efforts helped limit structural damage. No homes were lost, but two commercial buildings suffered severe damage.

Despite containment, firefighters remain on-site, working to eliminate lingering embers that could spark new fires.

“One suffered significant damage. One was fairly destroyed. Beyond that, there was no residential home damage,” said Second Assistant Fire Chief Lewis Scott.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze, using drones, arson specialists, and 911 call reviews. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina stated that it is too early to determine whether the fire was naturally caused or deliberately set.

While the fire devastated parts of the Pine Barrens, environmental experts note that the region’s ecosystem depends on occasional wildfires to promote plant regrowth. Acting NY State DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton emphasized that the landscape will naturally recover over time.

Until all hot spots are fully extinguished, authorities remain on high alert to prevent any flare-ups. Fire crews will continue scouring the area to ensure the Hamptons wildfire crisis is truly over.
