MAJOR SETBACK: Diddy’s Lawyer Quits Unexpectedly Before Explosive Sex Trafficking Trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has suffered a significant shake up as one of his attorneys Anthony Ricco has abruptly stepped down just months before the start of his sex trafficking trial. Ricco’s sudden withdrawal has raised questions especially given the cryptic nature of his statement regarding his departure.

According to legal filings submitted on Thursday (Feb. 20) in New York, Ricco formally requested to withdraw from representing Combs. In his filing, he stated

“Although I have provided Sean Combs with the high level of legal representation expected by the court, under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs.”

He further mentioned that attorney client privilege prevented him from disclosing specific reasons for his decision, suggesting that sensitive legal matters influenced his departure.

Despite Ricco’s exit Combs’ lead attorney Marc Agnifilo, confirmed that discussions had taken place regarding the staffing change and assured that the trial schedule would not be affected. Government prosecutors were also informed of the development but chose not to take a position on the matter.

The hip-hop mogul has been embroiled in a legal battle since his September 2024 arrest which came nearly a year after his ex girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against him alleging sexual abuse. Combs currently faces three serious federal charges racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. His trial is slated to begin in May.

As the trial date approaches, Ricco’s unexpected departure adds another layer of uncertainty to an already highly scrutinized legal battle.
