A GoFundMe page launched for the slain custodian of the Nashville School has collected almost half a million dollars. The page collected $350,000 on the first day of its launch.
Affectionately known as “Big Mike,” Mike Hill, 61, was the custodian of the Nashville school which became the site of the latest school shooting. Mike was one of the three school staff members who lost their lives in the school shooting, along with 3 nine-year-old children.
The father of 7, and grandfather to 14 grandchildren, Big Mike was a custodian at the school for 14 years.
“Mike, thank you for protecting Nashville’s children,” the GoFundMe page set up by Nashville parents said. The appeal, the statement said, was “dedicated to honoring this hero.”
“Mike was the beloved father of eight children. More notably, he was ‘Big Mike’ to his students, who will surely feel his loss in the years to come,” wrote organizer Anne Puricelli.
“Mike’s family deserves peace of mind that his loss was not in vain and that some good can come from it. His legacy can live on through goodwill and love. In the end, love should always win.”
The appeal originally sought $25,000 for “Mike’s family to put towards funeral services, expenses and to further dedicate to causes close to their hearts to facilitate healing in the Covenant and Nashville communities.”
A 28-year-old active shooter, Audrey Hale, was shot and killed by MNPD officers Englebert and Collazo.
