A violent attack unfolded at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Spokane when 40-year-old Joshua J. Sommers rushed the sanctuary and struck Father David Gaines during a service. Gaines, who sustained minor injuries, believes the attack highlights the city’s mental health crisis. Sommers, already facing assault and robbery charges from 2023, was arrested and remains in custody.
