Kanye West has weighed in on the ongoing debate about Kendrick Lamar’s dominance in hip-hop, asserting that no rapper stands a chance against Kendrick in a battle except for himself.
Kendrick Lamar has solidified his place as one of rap’s greatest artists, particularly after his explosive diss track Not Like Us, which took direct aim at Drake. The track not only became an anthem but also a defining moment in hip-hop history, showcasing Kendrick’s razor-sharp lyricism and ability to dismantle his opponent with precision
The influence of Not LikeUs was further cemented at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where Kendrick won big, further fueling discussions about the victor in his long-standing feud with Drake. With Drake now taking legal action against Universal Music Group over the song, their rivalry has only gained more significance in hip hop history.
He went on to compare Kendrick to Chun-Li from the classic video game Street Fighter, emphasizing that once Kendrick unleashes his lyrical attacks, it’s nearly impossible to counter them.
“You know in Street Fighter, you get Chun-Li, and there’s a certain kick that you just can’t beat?” Kanye explained. “If you rap against Kendrick Lamar, like Joe Budden said, ‘Never rap against Kendrick Lamar.’ It’s a difficult task, but… I’m a psycho genius, so, you know, it could be different.”
As the conversation continued, Laboy asked Kanye directly if Kendrick had officially defeated Drake. Kanye partially agreed, responding, “Yeah, for now.” He then likened Drake to NBA superstar Steph Curry, suggesting that while Kendrick may have won this round, Drake is still capable of making a major comeback.
“You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song,” Kanye quipped, hinting that Drake’s career is far from over.
Despite acknowledging Kendrick’s dominance, Kanye ended on a more positive note, crediting Drake, Kendrick, and even Future for pushing the culture forward.
