Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is urging state lawmakers to act decisively on illegal immigration. Speaking at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, DeSantis warned that defying his agenda could lead to severe political consequences. He called on legislators to pass bills during next week’s special session to address immigration issues in line with the Trump administration’s federal policies.
DeSantis’s proposals aim to intensify measures against illegal immigration, including increased penalties for businesses employing undocumented workers and stricter enforcement at local levels. However, some Republican leaders in the legislature have labeled the special session premature and hinted they might adjourn without addressing his proposals.
The governor did not mince words about the consequences of inaction. “It would be very, very hazardous politically,” DeSantis stated, emphasizing the urgency of taking a firm stance. He vowed to use his constitutional authority to push for compliance, adding that he would not back down.
“I will fight like a junkyard dog to get this done,” he declared, underscoring his determination to see his immigration policies enacted. “You don’t let go.”
DeSantis also hinted at the possibility of calling another special session if lawmakers fail to act during the upcoming one. He stressed the importance of aligning state policies with federal efforts to reduce illegal immigration, warning that Florida must not lag behind. For more updates check our Youtube channel.
The debate comes as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal immigration at the national level. DeSantis has been a vocal supporter of these federal initiatives, positioning himself as a staunch advocate for stricter border security and immigration control.
The special session is expected to test the political will of Florida’s legislature, especially among GOP leaders who appear hesitant to proceed with DeSantis’s aggressive timeline. As the session approaches, all eyes are on how lawmakers will respond to the governor’s call for immediate action.
