Former President Donald Trump has suggested that Joe Biden made a critical error by not pardoning himself before leaving office. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump criticized Biden’s decision, saying,
“This guy went around giving everybody pardons. And the funny thing, maybe the sad thing, is he didn’t give himself a pardon.”
Trump revealed that he was offered the opportunity to pardon himself in 2021 but declined because he believed he had done nothing wrong. He alleged that Biden received poor advice, stating, “Joe Biden has very bad advisers. Somebody advised Joe Biden to give pardons to everybody but him.”
The discussion has reignited conversations about the limits and ethics of presidential pardons. Critics argue that self-pardoning contradicts principles of accountability, while others question its legality.
During the same interview, Trump touched on other controversial topics. He criticized California’s water management, blaming fish conservation efforts for urban water shortages. He even suggested withholding federal aid to the state until it modifies its water policies.
Additionally, Trump defended his decision to pardon over 250 individuals convicted of crimes related to the January 6 Capitol attacks, dismissing the assaults on police officers as “very minor incidents.” He also downplayed security concerns over TikTok, calling them exaggerated, and threatened to cut funding to sanctuary cities that protect undocumented immigrants.
Trump’s remarks come as he returns to the political spotlight during his second term in office. The interview has sparked debate among legal experts and political analysts about the broader implications of his comments.
The discussion around pardons and presidential powers remains a hot topic, with Trump’s comments adding fuel to an already heated political climate.
