Sean “Diddy” Combs has taken legal action against NewsNation’s parent company, Nexstar, and Courtney Burgess, a federal grand jury witness, accusing them of spreading defamatory statements. Burgess alleged that he possessed explicit videos showing Combs engaging in sexual encounters with other celebrities, some of whom he claimed were minors. The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court, seeks at least $50 million in damages.
The accusations stem from interviews in which Burgess purportedly stated that he had evidence of Combs committing sexual assaults, including footage of inebriated and underage individuals. Combs argues that these claims are not only baseless but have also tarnished his reputation, jeopardized public perception, and tainted the jury pool for his pending legal case involving sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
Erica Wolff, Combs’ attorney, condemned the allegations, calling them “malicious falsehoods fabricated and disseminated with reckless disregard for the truth.”
She emphasized that the lawsuit aims to hold the defendants accountable for their role in amplifying these unfounded claims, which she says have undermined her client’s right to a fair trial.
The lawsuit also highlights how Burgess implicated other celebrities in his claims, alleging that Kim Porter, Combs’ late ex-partner and mother of his four children, provided him with explicit videos and a memoir. In one instance, Burgess presented still images, allegedly from the videos, during an interview, including one featuring Justin Bieber kissing an unidentified male.
Burgess further claimed in interviews that some footage showed multiple celebrities, with “two or three” appearing to be minors. Ariel Mitchell, Burgess’ lawyer, fueled these claims by stating that tapes were being circulated in Hollywood and offered for sale to keep them from public release.
Combs’ legal team has dismissed these assertions as baseless, accusing the defendants of profiting from a campaign of sensationalized lies. The lawsuit stands as a stark warning against leveraging unfounded allegations for financial gain, aiming to restore the rap mogul’s reputation amidst a wave of controversy.
