Megan Thee Stallion has successfully secured a restraining order against Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her. Megan, whose legal name is Megan Pete, claimed that Lanez has been harassing her from behind bars.
A Los Angeles judge ruled in favor of the 29-year-old rapper on Thursday, implementing a five-year restraining order that prohibits Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, from contacting or approaching her in any way. This order will remain in effect until January 9, 2030, ending three years before his scheduled prison release.Megan appeared via video call during the court proceedings, delivering an emotional testimony about her fears and the impact of Lanez’s actions.
“I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it,” she reportedly said, according to court journalist Meghann Cuniff.
Her statement highlighted the lingering trauma and ongoing fear she experiences as a result of the 2020 shooting. The Grammy-winning artist also accused Lanez of orchestrating online smear campaigns against her, allegedly using bloggers to spread false narratives. In her legal filing, Megan referred to Lanez as a “violent and dangerous criminal” who has continuously subjected her to “repeated trauma and revictimization,” even while incarcerated.
This restraining order follows Megan’s initial filing in December, which emphasized her need for protection from Lanez’s continued efforts to harass her. Despite being imprisoned, Lanez has allegedly shown no signs of ceasing these behaviors.
The legal dispute stems from a July 2020 incident in which Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan in the foot. He faced multiple charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm and possession of an unregistered, loaded weapon. In 2022, a jury convicted Lanez, leading to his 10-year prison sentence. Although his release is officially set for 2033, he may be eligible for parole as early as September 2029.
Megan’s struggles with Lanez date back years, with a previous restraining order granted in 2020, though it expired in 2023. The two were romantically involved before the incident, a fact Megan later confirmed in her 2024 Amazon documentary after initially denying their relationship in 2022.
