SZA Hints at Collaborative Album with Kendrick Lamar

SZA recently shared her thoughts on collaborating with fellow artist Kendrick Lamar on a potential joint album during an appearance on Sherri on January 8. The singer-songwriter, who has worked with Lamar on multiple projects, expressed a genuine interest in creating a full-length album together.

When host Sherri Shepherd asked if she and Kendrick would consider teaming up for a joint album, SZA’s answer was immediate: “I would love that,” she said, clearly excited by the idea.

The two first collaborated in 2014 on the track “Babylon” and have continued to work together over the years. Their most recent collaboration includes the hit songs “Luther” and “Gloria” from Lamar’s GNX album, as well as the Grammy-nominated “All the Stars” from the Black Panther soundtrack.

SZA praised Kendrick for his distinct musical vision, describing him as a “genius” whose mysterious and elusive nature makes him even more captivating. “He’s such a genius, and part of his genius is him being so elusive,” she explained.

“I don’t know what’s going on as much as you don’t know what’s going on.” She also opened up about how Kendrick’s innovative approach has influenced her own creative process, especially during her “fumbling and finding” phase. “He’s a huge part of that era because I trust his expertise and find myself in moments of growth,” she said.

Fans have long expressed their desire for a full album from SZA and Kendrick, especially given their chemistry on previous projects. As SZA continues to top the charts with her album SOS: LANA Deluxe, she recently hinted at taking a step back from the music industry after fulfilling her remaining contractual obligations with TDE. In a playful social media post, she suggested she might create “peaceful children’s music” before retreating to a quieter life as a farmer, where she could donate her produce to underserved communities.

SZA and Kendrick Lamar are also preparing for the upcoming Grand National Tour, which kicks off on April 19 and will take them across major cities including Los Angeles, Houston, and Toronto.
