KJP defends Biden’s ‘Controversial’ Cannibals Brag: ‘It Marked a Significant Moment for Him’.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended President Joe Biden’s recent story about his “Uncle Bosie” being eaten by cannibals in New Guinea during World War II. The story, which has raised eyebrows, was addressed by Jean-Pierre during a press gaggle on Air Force One while en route to Philadelphia.
When a reporter jokingly asked about a “cannibal tab” in her binder, Jean-Pierre laughed and said, “There’s no cannibal tab, what are you talking about?”
She then continued, “You saw the president, he was incredibly proud of his uncle’s service in uniform. You saw him at the war memorial, it was incredibly emotional and important to him.”
Jean-Pierre repeated part of the story, saying that Biden’s uncle had “lost his life after the military aircraft he was on crashed in the Pacific Ocean off – near New Guinea.” She then quickly pivoted to attack Trump, saying that Biden didn’t believe service members were “suckers or losers.”
However, when reporters pressed her about the veracity of the story, Jean-Pierre said she had nothing to add other than the fact that “it was a really proud moment for him.” The Pentagon’s account of the incident differs greatly from Biden’s story, with no evidence of the plane being “shot down” or any crew members being eaten by cannibals.
According to the Pentagon, the plane was forced to ditch in the ocean off the north coast of New Guinea due to engine failure, and three men were lost in the crash. One crew member survived and was rescued by a passing barge. An aerial search the next day found no trace of the missing aircraft or the lost crew members.
Biden’s claim that the government went back and found parts of the plane is also not supported by the Pentagon’s account. It is unclear why Biden’s story differs so greatly from the official account, but it has raised questions about his credibility and the accuracy of his statements.
Jean-Pierre’s defense of the president’s story has only added to the confusion, as she seemed to be trying to deflect attention from the issue rather than addressing the discrepancies. Her repeated insistence that the president was “proud” of his uncle’s service and that it was an “emotional” moment for him did not address the factual inaccuracies in the story.
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the importance of accuracy and truth in political discourse. While it is understandable that politicians may sometimes misspeak or exaggerate, it is crucial that they are held accountable for their statements and that the truth is prioritized.
In this case, it is unclear why Biden felt the need to embellish or invent a story about his uncle’s service, but it has led to a loss of trust and credibility for the president. It is essential that politicians prioritize honesty and transparency, especially when discussing important issues like military service and sacrifice.
