Niecy Nash-Betts Awarded Best Supporting Actress & Other 2024 Emmy Winners. Nash won best supporting actress in a limited series at the Emmys on Monday night for her work as Glenda Cleveland in “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”
“I’m a winner, baby!” she said as she ascended the stage. “Thank you, most high, for this precious moment. Thank you, Ryan Murphy, for coming to visit me. Evan Peters, I adore you.
Netflix. Everyone who voted for me. Thank you. My better half picked me up when I was exhausted from this task. “Thank you.”
Nash expressed gratitude to all who helped her win, including herself.
“I’d want to thank you for believing in me and achieving what others claimed I couldn’t do. I want to tell myself in front of these gorgeous people, “Go, girl, with your bad self.” “You did it.
Nash continued, “Finally, I accept this award on behalf of every Black and brown woman who has gone unheard while being overpoliced, such as Glenda Cleveland, Sandra Bland, and Breonna Taylor!” I must speak truth to power, and I will do it until the day I die.
The touching speech occurred after a night of historic victories and outstanding acceptance speeches by performers of color, including Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson, and others. The accomplishments that happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Day were not ignored.
Nash offered words of support in the press room at the Emmys. “I am the only one who understands how much it costs me. I’m the only one who knows how many nights I sobbed because I couldn’t get cast for a certain part. “I’m the one who knows what it’s like to go through a divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out, and you still have to go home — you’ve got children and a whole life,” she said.
“So, I am proud of myself. “I’m proud that I did something others said I couldn’t do because I believed in myself,” the actress said. “Sometimes individuals don’t believe in themselves. And I hope my speech served as a delightful invitation for folks to do just that. … That is why it isn’t termed mama-esteem, them-esteem, or us-esteem. “It’s called self-esteem because only you can believe it.”
Nash said that she was seen in Hollywood as solely a humorous actor and had to show she was “not a one-trick pony.” I have a few more tricks in my sleeves.”
RuPaul is no stranger to Emmy victories for outstanding reality competition programs, having won his fifth for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on Monday.
The judge and executive producer previously won the title four years in a row from 2018 to 2021 but lost to “Lizzo’s Watch Out for The Big Grrrls” last year.
“We are delighted to get this award. “Listen, you guys are so lovely for honoring our show and recognizing all these queens,” he remarked. “Hundreds of drag queens have been unleashed into the wild, and they are lovely. On their behalf, we thank you.”
RuPaul said, “If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power, and if someone tries to limit your access to power, they are trying to scare you, so listen to a drag queen.” We adore you and appreciate you.”
Edebiri won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in “The Bear.”
“I’m so incredibly grateful for this for so many reasons, but the main one is this is a show about family and found family and real family,” Edebiri said at the start of her talk. “My folks are here tonight. I’m having them sit farther away from me because I’m a nasty child. But I adore you people. Thank you for loving me and making me feel beautiful, black, and proud.”
She said, “It’s not a fantasy to move to this country and have your kid say, ‘I want to perform improv,’ but you’re the genuine ones. Thank you so much for this. “It means the world.”
Her triumph and Brunson’s were the first time two Black women swept the top comedy categories in the same year. “It’s quite amazing, and I’m very humbled. “It’s special, especially today,” Edebiri stated in the press room.
