Simone Biles Reveals What Attracted Her To Husband Jonathan Owens After NFL Star Says He’s “The Catch”

Simone Biles opens up about her whirlwind romance with NFL star

Gymnastics sensation Simone Biles opens up about her whirlwind romance with NFL star Jonathan Owens, revealing the unexpected attraction that led to their two weddings in 2023. In a recent interview, gymnast Simone Biles discussed her relationship with NFL great Jonathan Owens and what drew her to her husband.

The pair met on Raya, a celebrity dating app, in March 2020 when Biles DM’d him. They hit it off immediately when they finally met in person a few days later. Owens stated in a recent interview that he had no idea who the 2016 Olympic winner was when they met.

After almost two years of dating, he proposed to Biles on Valentine’s Day in 2022, and they married twice in 2023, first in a civil ceremony in Houston in April and again in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in May.

Biles acknowledged that her initial attraction to Owens was his appearance, but she was also drawn to his generosity and confidence.

“If I’m going to be honest, obviously, he’s very fine,” Biles remarked. “Aside from his appearance, he was lovely and polite, and I guess what I enjoyed most was his confidence. “He truly believes he is the best at everything.”

Owens received criticism in December when he disclosed in an interview with “The Pivot Podcast” that he was first unaware of the Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast’s identity. The Green Bay Packers safety claimed he was in college and busy training during Biles’ Olympic success, so he didn’t watch much TV.

“I had been using the app for a couple of days when she appeared, and I was like, ‘Let me see who this is.'” Gymnastics. I’m not never… “I’d never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my interest,” Owens remarked. “I’ll check what’s happening. “I swiped her, and it said we matched.”

The 28-year-old said he was not ready to settle down and was terrified of commitment, but he and Biles fell in love. Afterward, he was questioned during the interview: “So, you were the catch?” Owens said, “I always say the man’s the catch.”

The harmless statement went viral, and Owens received widespread criticism online. He justified himself by posting a photo with the phrase “Unbothered.” Just know we’re locked in over here.” Biles said, “…for life,” and uploaded a photo of the two on Instagram.

Biles was the first Black gymnast to win the all-around World Championship title, which she accomplished in 2013 at 16. At the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, she won four gold medals and one bronze medal.

She recounted meeting Owens in 2020 and expressed reluctance to join the dating app after a breakup.

“I had just broken up [with someone], and my friend was like, ‘Get on Raya, get on Raya,'” Biles added. “My guard went immediately up when she mentioned ‘dating site.’ The next week, I met him in person, and the rest is history. “We were hooked.”

Biles also discussed her two marriages with Owens. “I’ve never had so much fun,” she said. “I was 19 when I won my first Olympics, and I thought, ‘How am I going to top this?'” My wedding surpassed it. “It was the best feeling ever.”

The Vanity Fair interview with Biles will be published in the magazine’s January 23 edition.
