George Brown, Drummer And Co-Founder Of Kool & The Gang Has Died At The Age Of 74. Following a long and courageous fight against cancer, George “Funky” Brown, the veteran drummer and co-founding member of the band Kool & the Gang, passed away on Thursday. He was 74 years old.

In a statement that was released to EW on Friday, a spokesman for the band confirmed the news and gave a statement from Brown’s family that said, “We lost our beloved husband and father, Kool & The Gang founding member George Brown last night.” At the Long Beach Memorial Hospital, he died away in a calm and serene manner, surrounded by his family. Because of his extraordinary skill and presence, he will be sorely missed and will never be forgotten.

In addition, the band paid homage to Brown on social media by uploading a picture of him along with the following caption: “In loving memory of our dear brother, co-founder, and the funkiest drummer the world has ever seen.” It is now time for his wonderful spirit to rest. Earlier this year, Brown received the news that he had lung cancer in the fourth stage. It was over sixty years after he had formed Kool & the Gang in New Jersey with brothers Robert “Kool” Bell and Ronald Bell, Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas, Robert “Spike” Mickens, Charles Smith, Woodrow “Woody” Sparrow, and Ricky West that he decided to retire due to his condition.

The group has been successful in selling millions of albums and winning two Grammys over the course of the previous six decades with an energetic combination of jazz, funk, R&B, and soul music.

Brown, in addition to playing drums, was responsible for writing a number of the band’s most successful songs, such as “Celebration,” “Ladies Night,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Get Down on It,” and “Too Hot.” He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018, and Kool & the Gang were inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2015. For the time being, Robert Bell is the only founder member of the group who is still alive.

Together with the publication of his biography, Too Hot: Kool & the Gang & Me, Brown was responsible for producing the most current album by Kool & the Gang, titled People Just Wanna Have Fun, which was published earlier this year.

His five children and his wife, Hanh Brown, are the only ones who will remember him.
