Philadelphia 76ers guard was hit by a car on Saturday night in Center City, as officials claim. The car didn’t stop and ran away immediately. The heavy hit by the car caused Kelly Oubre Jr. broke a rib.
Oubre was taken to a hospital nearby and hospital officials assessed his condition carefully. He was released a few hours later after the primary treatment is done. 76ers management ruled out Kelly for the game against the Indiana Pacers which is happened to be on Sunday. He will be reevaluated one week later and further updates will be available by then.
27 years old Oubre was hit by the vehicle on Saturday evening at the intersection of Hicks and Spruce Streets.
Philadelphia 76ers guard was hit by a car. “It’s really unfortunate. He was having such a great year and I hope he gets better soon. We want him back and he was really good for us,” Nick Scaramuzza, of West Chester, said.
As per police report, Obre was walking along 1400 block of Spruce Street. Suddenly a car came from behind at a very high speed and took South while he was crossing the street. Driver side mirror hit him on the chest and his ribs were broken by the effect.
The car was silver colored and driver didn’t stop to check the condition of the accident victim. He fled immediately from the spot. Fire department took Oubre to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital as soon as possible.
After the incident, Oubre was in stable condition with a broken rib and injuries to his hip and right leg.
Sixer’s head coach Nick Nurse said that he found out the news while he was watching TV at his home. He gave an idea that Oubre might join the team on coming Tuesday on observation basis.
Oubre has just started his first season with 76ers.Till now he averaged 16.8 points in eight games. In 2015 draft, he was the 15th overall pick. He played with 4 other teams too.
According to Nurse, the head coach of 76ers, Oubre was playing at his peak of the basketball career. Its very unfortunate that he suddenly face this accident where his career is hit at a peak time.
Sixers fans are sad for their hero’s misfortune. Most of the fans wish him a quick recovery.
