Cheers as Controversial NFL Star Adrian Peterson Exits: DWTS
On Dancing With the Stars, former NFL great Adrian Peterson went home with a result many fans liked after a night commemorating 100 years of Disney enchantment.
Given his criminal history, including a reckless attack on his kid, Peterson was a contentious choice in September. After a few weeks, he failed to get enough votes on Tuesday.
His night makes him such a problematic cast member, and the remainder of the evening is covered here.
Every pair danced to a Disney movie, including Peterson and Britt Stewart’s Dumbo-themed Viennese waltz to “Baby Mine.” They equaled or beat five of the 11 competing teams with all 7s from the judges, an improvement from prior weeks.
They were in the bottom three after two hours of DWTS, along with Barry Williams, Peta Murgatroyd, Lele Pons, and Brandon Armstrong, since fan voting counts toward judges’ scores.
Peterson was eliminated after missing the goal line. Before leaving, he termed Stewart “a heck of a coach” and his experience “lovely.”
Peterson’s resignation comes two weeks after Jamie Lynn Spears’ departure, which sparked the #FreeBritney campaign.
Due to Peterson’s legal background, many people reacted positively on social media. The reason is:
A Texas grand jury charged the NFL running back in September 2014 for willful or negligent damage to a child after one of his children visited him earlier that year. The police report recorded Peterson confessing to “whoop” one of his kids and the youngster informing the doctor he was struck with “a branch of a tree.”
Peterson agreed to plead no guilty to misdemeanor reckless assault of his kid in November 2014. He received probation, a $4,000 fine, and 80 hours of community service instead of prison. He was also unpaid for the rest of the 2014 NFL season. He played another six seasons in the league after that.
Peterson made news again in February 2022 when the Los Angeles Airport Police detained him for domestic abuse with his wife, Ashley, on an LAX aircraft to Houston, Texas. A fight prompted the jet to return to the airport gate. Later that day, he paid $50,000 bail and was freed. Later, his wife said he didn’t beat her; it was simply a verbal disagreement. Charges were dismissed.
Some viewers on X, previously Twitter, believed Peterson should have remained based on his dancing, but most liked the “gift” of sending him home.
After starting with “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto, Dancing With the Stars included songs from Lady and the Tramp, The Lion King, Toy Story, Cinderella, Fantasia, and more.
Xochitl Gomez (27), Ariana Madix (25), Charity Lawson (24), and Jason Mraz (24) scored the most. They danced to Coco, Frozen II, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin tunes.
Next week’s performance will honor former head judge Len Goodman and include returning cast members.
